| FSC is ...
an independent, membership-based organization that brings people together to promote responsible management of the world's forests through developing standards, a certification system and trademark recognition.
FSC Certification
FSC certification is carried out by FSC accredited certification bodies. FSC itself does not certify forest operations or manufacturers. This maintains FSC's independence between its standards and requirements, and operations seeking certification.
Parquet Ceylon rewarded with FSC Certification
Being an environmentally conscious company, Parquet became the first in South Asia to introduce rubber wood flooring to the international market under the brand name - "Asian Oak".
Rubber was established in Sri Lanka in 1876 with the planting of rubber plants imported from Brazil. In the 1950s, the rubber products manufacturing sector began operations, primarily to retread tyres.
The Sri Lankan rubber primarily consists of two industries. The plantation industry, which harvests latex from rubber trees and converts it to processed raw rubber, and the rubber products manufacturing industry which converts raw rubber into value added rubber goods. In addition to this, a third sector is emerging, which is the use of rubber wood as a material resource for manufacturing a wide range of wood based value added products.
In this part of the world, the main purpose of a rubber tree is latex production. A rubber tree will generally have a useful economic lifespan of 25 to 30 years to yield high production of latex. After this period, the tree will have to be replaced with higher yielding clones. Unfortunately, until recently, most of these discarded trees have been used as fuel wood.
Parquet Ceylon has addressed this vital issue and, in keeping with our policy of being an environmentally conscious Company, became the first in South Asia to introduce rubber wood flooring. Over the years, the company has ensured that the customers received nothing short of the best in terms of price and quality. As a result of its commitment to the environment, in 1996, the Company was awarded the prestigious Forest Stewardship Council Certificate, which certifies that the rubber wood used in the manufacture of products come from well-managed plantations. Despite intense competition, the Company has excelled in the export market and is proud to be the only exporter of wooden flooring products in Sri Lanka. Some of the export markets include the USA, UK, Germany, Australia, Netherlands, Norway,
Australia, Greece, India and Korea. |
